The author of this book, Jim Kelly, is a professor of Guitar at Berklee College of Music, and has traveled around the world teaching and performing on this instrument. He has put together the "Guitar Workshop" series of materials to help teach guitar players. The music and studies of this collection were written for a variety levels and abilities. This collection is also written to stand alone from the rest of the "Guitar Workshop" series.
The 10 songs that Jim Kelly has written for this series are designed to help you learn how to play in the style of guitar greats like Kenny Burrell, Mike Stern, Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and others. The CD included with the book enables you to listen as Jim captures the sound of these players, and then use the play-along tracks to develop your own approaches.
With full-band and play-along tracks, you will learn how to phrase your own solos in new ways by using the techniques of master guitar players. Valuable to players at all levels, the strong melodies and chord changes are fun to listen to and learn. Jim and his band knock out each tune so you can hear how it sounds featuring quartet and trio tracks with alto sax, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, and drums. This book provides you with traditional lead sheet music notation and guitar tablature, including style, tempo, form, fingerings, song description and commentary, hints, tips, approach, and practice ideas.
